Why "Near Me" Matters More for a Roof Than for Most Jobs

A roofer from across the county can do the work, but the rules change with the address. Three things move with your ZIP code:

A local roofer knows these for the jobs they do every week. The ZIP finder above gives you the same starting point before anyone comes out.

How to Find a Licensed Roofer Near You

Whoever you call, the license is the first check. The Contractors State License Board's free Check a License tool searches by license number, business name or person, and also lists licensed contractors by city or ZIP code. For a roof, look for the C-39 Roofing classification, an active status, and workers' compensation on file, which roofers must carry even with no employees. Then get at least two written bids built on the same scope. Our guide to hiring a roofing contractor covers the contract rules California gives you, from the 10% or $1,000 down-payment cap to the 3-day right to cancel.

Or tell us about the roof with the form on this page. One of the roofing contractors we work with in Los Angeles County will reach out, and everything above applies to them too: ask for the license number and check it.

Finding a Roofer Near You: FAQs

How do I find a roofer near me in Los Angeles?

Start with the ZIP code of the property: it decides who issues the permit and which cool-roof and fire rules apply. Then check any roofer's license on the CSLB's Check a License tool, which also lists licensed contractors by city or ZIP, and get written bids built on the same scope.

Who issues the roofing permit for my address?

LADBS for the City of Los Angeles, the city's own building department for incorporated cities such as Pasadena, Burbank, Santa Monica or Lancaster, and LA County Public Works for unincorporated areas. Some ZIP codes cross a city line, so check the address.

Does my ZIP code need a cool roof?

It depends on the Title 24 climate zone. A steep-slope house reroof needs a cool-rated product in zones 4 and 8 through 15, which covers most of inland LA County and the Antelope Valley, but not in coastal zone 6 or mountain zone 16, unless an exception applies.
